Here’s a cheerful spring topiary the kids and I made this week. We used items we already had around the house so it was essentially a no-cost craft—one of my favorite kinds of projects.
Supplies
Styrofoam ball and a wooden dowel (both were repurposed from previous projects)
Paper Easter grass
Acrylic paint (or craft paint you have on hand)
Small flower pot or container
Floral foam or a similar filler
Hot glue (or strong craft glue) and small accessories like ribbon or tiny eggs
First, one of the kids painted the dowel brown to resemble a trunk.

Next we trimmed the floral foam to fit the pot. The foam was glued securely into the container to hold the trunk in place.

We covered the Styrofoam ball with the paper grass, alternating who applied glue and who pressed the grass into place so the kids could both help.

After the paint dried, the dowel was pushed into the floral foam and the grass-covered ball was attached to the top.

A little trimming helped shape the ball and tidy stray pieces of grass.

We added more grass around the base to hide the floral foam and give a finished look.

For final touches we tucked tiny plastic Easter eggs into the grass and tied a ribbon around the pot for a festive accent.

This simple project is perfect for spring decorating or as a kid-friendly craft. It uses reusable materials, encourages creativity, and creates a charming centerpiece you can display year after year.
