Savory Old Bay Spiced Peanuts — Crunchy Snack Recipe

Raised on the Gulf Coast, Old Bay seasoning was a pantry staple in my house. Known for enhancing seafood dishes—especially classic low-country boils—Old Bay brings a bright, savory blend of herbs and spices. It also makes a fantastic savory snack when paired with bacon and roasted peanuts.

I first heard about Maryland-style Old Bay peanuts and had to try them. The smoky saltiness of bacon plays beautifully with Old Bay’s unique seasoning, while a touch of sugar and cayenne adds balance and a slight kick. These nuts are easy to prepare, travel well, and are perfect with an ice-cold beer or as a game-day snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups roasted unsalted peanuts
  • 2–4 pieces bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon melted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the peanuts with melted butter, Old Bay, salt, cayenne, and sugar. Toss thoroughly so the peanuts are evenly coated.
  • Spread the coated peanuts in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, stir to redistribute, then bake another 15 minutes until fragrant and slightly toasted.
  • Let the peanuts cool on the baking sheet for about 15 minutes so the seasoning adheres. Transfer to a bowl and fold in the crumbled bacon. Store in an airtight container once fully cooled.
