Raise your hand if you think Pinterest is the best thing to happen in a long time. Same here.
Have you ever tried a Pinterest tip that looked amazing but turned into an epic fail? Me too.
Just because a tip gets pinned hundreds of thousands of times doesn’t mean it actually works. Often it only means a lot of people thought it looked like a good idea. Big difference.
I’m starting a new series called “Tuesday Tips.”
I’ll share tips I’ve used for years and reliable finds from around the web. If I try something that doesn’t work, I’ll tell you so you don’t waste time or money. You’re welcome.
Ready for the first tip? It’s about smartphones—specifically, how to make your phone’s speaker sound louder.
I use an iPhone, but this trick should work with most phones.
How to Amplify the Sound on Your iPhone Speaker
Full disclosure: this trick surprised me. Not scary—just wildly impressive. I can’t even remember where I first saw it. I probably saw it online and dismissed it at first, but the idea stuck. While I was washing mason jars one day, I remembered it and decided to try.
If you want your phone’s audio to carry farther around the house while you clean or move from room to room, this is a simple and effective solution.

Play music on your phone, then place the phone face up inside a narrow container with sides—like a mason jar. The perceived volume increases immediately. Technically the phone’s output doesn’t rise, but the container helps direct and amplify the sound, so it carries better. I was so surprised I kept putting the phone in and out of the jar just to hear the difference.
I also tried a glass bowl and a plastic cottage cheese container. They worked too, but the narrow glass container produced the clearest amplification.
