Craving something sweet and irresistible? These big apple fritters are golden and crisp on the outside with a tender, apple-studded interior. Easy to make and perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon treat, this recipe yields classic fritters finished with a simple sweet glaze.

INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE FRITTERS:

  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp applesauce
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced

FOR THE GLAZE:

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk (adjust for desired consistency)

HOW TO MAKE BIG APPLE FRITTERS:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt until evenly combined.
  • Add the applesauce, eggs and milk to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the fritters light.
  • Fold in the diced apples so they are evenly distributed through the batter.
  • Heat several inches of neutral oil (such as canola or vegetable) in a deep-sided pot or skillet until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
  • Carefully drop about ¼ cup of batter per fritter into the hot oil. Fry 2–3 minutes per side, or until each fritter is golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on a paper towel–lined plate or cooling rack.
  • While the fritters cool slightly, whisk the glaze ingredients—powdered sugar, vanilla and milk—until smooth. Add more milk a teaspoon at a time if the glaze is too thick.
  • Dip each warm fritter into the glaze or drizzle it on top, then let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm.
